This is a particularly exciting case study to share because, at the time of this writing, it’s been little more than a week since the public launch of Katalyst, a brand-new organization under the umbrella of Kiwanis International. First, some background on the broader organization. Many people have a connection of some kind with Kiwanis International, a national service organization based in Indianapolis, IN. With a variety of programs for kids, Key Club for teens, Circle K for college students, and Kiwanis for older adults, Kiwanis has chapters for people of all ages around the country, and is dedicated to teaching leadership through service to children.

Nicole Harris has been with Kiwanis International since 2012, and in 2016 she spearheaded a movement to found a new club pursuant to Kiwanis’ vision, this one specifically geared towards young adults. Well over a year of research, planning, and hard work have led to Nicole’s founding of Katalyst, which aims to make it as easy as possible for overworked and overscheduled adults to find opportunities to serve their communities. With a special focus on an online platform, it’s Nicole’s goal for Katalyst’s founding chapter in Indianapolis to become a full-blown community, brought together by shared passions and projects made shareable and easily joinable via Katalyst’s digital presence.

When it was time to develop Katalyst’s messaging for their first website and outbound promotional campaigns, Nicole knew she needed to find a team of writers who could help her tap into the specific energy she needed for the new brand. We collaborated with Nicole via a voice and messaging workshop, which translated to a Voice and Messaging Guide as well as copy for the new site. But enough from us. Nicole was gracious enough to share some kind words about her experience, which we think tell the story better than we ever could:

“Kiwanis is a 100+ year old, fairly conservative organization. So when we were looking to launch a new program targeted at a younger demographic, we wanted to make sure the tone and vibe of our messaging was much different than Kiwanis. That meant going to an outside writer. Metonymy Media was recommended to us from RocketBuild who built our platform for our new program, Katalyst. I went to their office to see if they were the right fit for Katalyst and since that day, hiring them has been one of the best choices we’re made for this new program! They turn around amazing work pretty quickly. Rarely have I felt like a piece has missed the mark, but when I do send feedback, they’ve done a great job of reworking the piece to my liking and never give me any grief. (I feel like some agencies really can push their artistic vision to trump what you’re going for.) I highly recommend working with Metonymy for whichever project you’re working on!” – Nicole Harris, Founder, Katalyst
